How to resize a video on Windows and Mac

People who need to resize their videos many have various reasons, they need to resize a video so that it can fit certain screen size such as iPod, iPhone, Android and other mobile devides or your computer, for sending as attachment or for uploading to YouTube and other video sharing website etc.

Then, how can you resize a video? There are generally two ways for way to resize a video, you can either change the display size of the video or change the file size of the video. all of these can be done with Wondershare Video Editor.

Solution 1: Resize the display size of the video

Step 1: Import videos

Click “Import” or simply drag and drop videos to Windows File Explorer to the User’s Album. Then, drag videos from the User’s Album to the video track of the Timeline.

Step 2: Crop videos

With crop function, you can focus on certain part of the video and resize the display size of your video. To crop a video, just double click the added video on Timeline, then a “Crop” button pops up, Click it to bring up the editing window to crop videos.

Just as you can see from the picture above, on the left is the original video, and on the right is the video that need to be edited. Just move and resize the marquee to decide how to crop the original video. At the bottom, there are three options for you to crop a video: manually select the marquee, keep the marquee in 16:9 or 4:3 aspect radio.

Step 3: Save your video

Click “Create” to save your video. You can either go to the “Format” to save your video in different formats. Or go to the “Device” tab if you want to play the video on mobile devices like iPhone, iPad, iPod, etc. On the top of the interface, you can also directly upload your video to YouTube and Facebook or burn to a DVD.

Solution 2: Resize the file size of the video

Step 1: Load videos

Click “Import” or simply drag and drop videos to Windows File Explorer to the User’s Album. Then, drag videos from the User’s Album to the video track of the Timeline.

Step 2: Adjust settings and save your videos

Click “Create” on the bottom right of the interface to export video. You can change the video settings while exporting video to different devices and formats. By clicking the little triangle button, a variety of video options will appear, including resolution, frame rate, bit rate, encoder, sample rate, etc.

Just take FLV as an example, by changing the resolution to 320×240 resolution, and reduce the video frame rate 15 fps, a video of about 3 minutes will be exported to an 18MB FLV file. If you feel that it is compressed enough, you can also lower the bit rate and/or frame rate to get a smaller output file if your source video is long.

Optional: Cut videos

You can also cut the video length to make the video have a smaller size using cut function. Just click the video to highlight it on the Timeline, place the red Time Indicator to where you need to cut the video, then click the Scissor button. Then move the red marker to the end of the scene, and repeat this again to cut the video into several fragments. Right click the video and choose “Delete” to cut off the unwanted parts.
